The game was developed because Bullfrog wanted to bring the original Theme Park up-to-date. Theme Park World features four themes of amusement park, the ability to ride attractions, and an online service that enabled players to share parks. Reception was mostly positive, with reviewers complimenting the sound and visuals, although some were critical of the interface.
My Contribution
It’s been such a long time, that I can’t remember exactly which bits of this game I worked on! I know I contributed initially to the game in general, then I shifted focus to creating several of the mini-games that could be played by visiting the stalls. I’d probably have to get a copy to trigger my memory. This is probably the last game I worked on as a ‘programmer’ for Climax. I think after this I focussed more on reviewing business activities, such as reviewing the potential for something called ‘Unreal Engine’, debunking studios during site visits, and determining it would be a really bad idea to try to port the Microsoft Flight Simulator code to the consoles of the time. (I was later proven right!).
