This is a rare original title for us during a busy period where we were constantly being hired to port games to PC (usually from the Amiga). On The Tiles is a sliding puzzle game with extra features (hazards and tricks) what we conceived of while walking past the British Library after a ECTS (industry trade show) event. There was later some controversy, as we were accused by a local competitor of stealing their idea and code (this is pretty much pre-internet, so I’ve no idea how we were supposed to have done that), so we ended up with Elite Systems (the publisher of the game) doing a code review to ensure there was nothing dodgy going on. Amazing that such a suggestion would have been taken seriously.
For a while this game was going to be ‘The Pepsi Challenge’, before we settled on a Franky, Joe and Dirk theme, relating to other games in Elite’s catalogue.
My Contribution
I designed and developed this game for the Nintendo Gameboy, using bespoke (homebrew) development hardware and SDK. Nintendo were still happy to publish it though!
